I have several email accounts / IMAP set-up. So looking at my tree of email accounts one inbox might have 10 mail total and 3 unread form earlier. It’s not until I click on that folder I will then see fix MFA prompts not working the 10 and 3 and two second later it will sync and new ones will populate.

You should look at your Outlook desktop client settings to review the default synchronization schedule and tweak anything you can to get it to poll Google’s IMAP servers more frequently. I access the IMAP servers from 3 different machines, and they all see the changes from each other. The problem is that the some changes are not reflected in the Gmail web app. By web app, I mean webmail accessed via Firefox or Chrome for (say) Windows 10, not smartphone app. To set up a mail account, we can set the same standard name “mail.mydomain.com” as the incoming and outgoing mail server. I deleted the Apple Mail app from the phone, reinstalled from the App Store. So only wait when some “smarties” from apple IT solve problem in app … Apple programmers use no CD/CI – simple sometimes update by “sales-manager requests”, and without any critical-bug-checks … Full cleanup of ALL accounts is not a solution(and re-add even helps not). I also noticed that some IMAP settings — like the root folder path (e.g. “INBOX”) — are not available in the new Outlook, which makes troubleshooting more difficult.
I’ve tried repairing the data file, removing and re-adding the account, rebooting, re-installing Outlook/Office, running SFC/DISM, all to no avail. Their webmail works fine, and when this account is added to the Windows Mail app, everything works perfectly. These are the common reasons why the IMAP folder is not syncing. The issue is; just looking at my email accounts and the numbers shown next to the folders I cant tell if there is new mail or not until I click on them. I have all desktop alerts turned off I prefer it this way I don’t need all of that. I just want to be able to look and see new message. Even if I have an account with zero message I need to click to see the new ones there are no numbers appear. I am also running QuickFolders and its the same nothing shows up on those tabs until i physically click on them. Ok so my mistake the Properties option is there when right clicking folder – I was only focused on right clicking on the email address to take me to server setting I was not clicking on the actual folder.
I would suggest that frequent changes to folder contents on multiple devices will make it go wrong.
